The Number Nobody Wants to Look At
Engineering, public health and computing filed 53 proposals and won 23 of them, taking $13.1M of the $18.4M. The other nine departments filed 31 between them and won six. The gap is not talent. It is that three departments have someone whose job is writing proposals and nine do not.
29 of 84 proposals landed, which is a good year by any measure we keep. The cheapest thing to fix is the 28 intents that never became proposals: a shared writing desk would cost less than one award and it would be paid for by the first one it wins.
