A company overview template gives you a fixed place for the four things a stranger wants to know about your business: who you are, what drives you, how big you are and where you came from. Sales teams attach it to a first email, founders send it before a meeting, and HR gives it to new hires on day one. Below are the six parts every company overview needs, a free template you can copy, and four examples.

What is a company overview?
A company overview is a short description of a business: what it does, who it serves, what it believes and the numbers that show its size. It is the first thing a buyer, partner, investor or new employee reads about you, often before they have spoken to anyone.
It is different from an annual report, which reports on a year, and from a company profile, which leans on services and past clients to win work. The overview answers a simpler question: who is this company?
The 6 parts of a company overview
- Who we are, in two sentences. What you make or do, who buys it and where. "We make baked snacks from whole grains, sold in 45 countries."
- Mission, vision and values. Why you exist, where you are going and how you behave, one line each.
- What sets you apart. Three facts a rival cannot claim, each with a number if you can.
- What you do, in parts. Your business lines, services or customer groups, with their share of the business.
- In numbers. Three or four figures that show your size: countries, customers, people, sites.
- Your story. Four dates on a line, from the first day to today.
Add a seventh if the overview goes to investors: revenue and the ask.

| Mission | Why you exist. Make a better snack the easy choice in every lunchbox |
| Vision | Where you are going, with a date. One in five snacks sold in our markets is whole grain by 2030 |
| Values or purpose | How you behave. Fair prices for farmers and honest labels for parents |
| What sets us apart | 3 facts. 96% of leases renewed last year |
| In numbers | 3 or 4. 45 countries, 2,700 stores, 3 bakeries |

Edit this template
A property company that earns money in several ways, showing each segment and its share of rent.

- Business segments as four numbered boxes, each with its size: 22 buildings, 58% of rent.
- Rent by segment as one ring, so a reader sees where the money comes from.

PowerPoint, Word or a One-Pager?
Searches for this template often add "ppt", "word" or "slide". Each format fits a different moment.
| Format | Best for |
|---|---|
| A slide in a deck | Presenting the company in a meeting, as the first slide after the title |
| A Word document | A long company description for a tender or a grant |
| A designed One-Pager | Attaching to a first email, printing for a trade show or giving to new hires |
You can use the same words in all three. Write the One-Pager first, because it forces you to choose the two sentences, three facts and four numbers that matter. One-Pagers made on MakeOnepagers download as a PDF that drops into a deck or an email.

Company overview mistakes
- Opening with the mission statement. A stranger needs to know what you do before why you do it.
- Values any company could claim. "Integrity, excellence, teamwork" says nothing. "Answer fast, fix it properly, tell the truth on cost" says how you work.
- No numbers. Size and track record are what make a reader trust the rest.
- Too much history. Four dates are enough. The rest belongs on your website.
