A 30 60 90 day plan template splits someone's first three months in a new job into three phases: learn in the first 30 days, plan by day 60, deliver by day 90. Each phase gets goals with numbers, so the new hire and their manager agree on what success looks like before the first week is over. Below is a free template you can copy, what belongs in each phase, and two examples on one page each.

What is a 30 60 90 day plan?
A 30 60 90 day plan is a short written plan for the first three months in a role. It is used in two places:
- In a job interview, where a candidate brings one to show how they would start. It turns "I am a fast learner" into a list of things they will actually do.
- In the first week of a new job, where the new hire and their manager write it together, then check it at days 30, 60 and 90.
The same shape works for a new manager, a new salesperson, a new team lead and, with small changes, a new customer.
What goes in each phase
| Phase | Theme | What to put in it |
|---|---|---|
| First 30 days | Learn | Meet the people, learn the product, sit in on calls, read the numbers. Goals are about coverage: "Meet all 14 reps." |
| First 60 days | Plan | Set targets, fix the first obvious problem, start your own work. Goals are about decisions: "Set a target for each rep." |
| First 90 days | Deliver | Show results that move the business. Goals are about outcomes: "Close $1.2M in new business." |
Under the three phases, add:
- Goals by phase in a table, with a number for each goal at days 30, 60 and 90.
- How success is measured at day 90: three or four figures the manager will check.
- Week one: a checklist of the first five things to do.
- Who helps: manager, buddy, check-in time and review date.

2 30 60 90 day plan examples
1. 30 60 90 day plan for a sales manager
Edit this template
A new sales manager's first quarter: learn the team and accounts, set targets, then close business.
What to copy:
- Each phase labelled with one word: learn, plan, deliver. The manager sees the logic at a glance.
- Goals in a table with a column per checkpoint: accounts visited 10, 25, 40; deals closed $0.1M, $0.5M, $1.2M. Every check-in has a number to look at.
- Pipeline built, week by week, as a line rising to $3.5M by week 12. It shows the plan is realistic, not a jump at the end.

2. 30 60 90 day plan for a new lead, area by area
Edit this template
A new team lead's plan split by area, so nothing important waits until month three.
What to copy:
- Rows for each area of the job (customers, team, product, numbers) and columns for each phase. It shows every part of the role moving at once.
- Four day-90 measures in big type: top accounts met 20 of 20, renewals on time 95%, monthly churn 4.5%, team goals agreed 8 of 8.
- "Who helps" with a check-in time: every Friday, 30 minutes, and a review on day 90 with the VP.

Using a 30 60 90 day plan in a job interview
A plan brought to an interview is a strong signal, because it shows you have thought about the job rather than only about getting it. A few rules:
- Use what you learned about the company. Name their product, their customers or a goal from the job ad. A generic plan reads as a template.
- Keep the first 30 days humble. Listening, meeting people and learning the numbers. Interviewers distrust a newcomer who plans to change everything in week two.
- Put numbers in the 90-day column, but frame them as targets you would agree with your manager.
- Fit it on one page. You will hand it across the table or share your screen for a minute. More than that will not be read.

How to write a 30 60 90 day plan in 6 steps
- List the three or four areas of the job: people, customers, product, numbers.
- For the first 30 days, write what you will learn in each area, and who you will meet.
- For day 60, write the decisions you will make and the first problem you will fix.
- For day 90, write the results, each with a number.
- Pick three or four measures your manager will check on day 90.
- Add week one and who helps, so the plan starts on day one.

30 60 90 day plan mistakes
- Results in the first 30 days. You do not know enough yet. Promise learning, not change.
- Goals with no numbers. "Build relationships" cannot be checked. "Meet the 20 largest customers" can.
- A plan written alone. Agree it with your manager in week one, or it is your plan, not the team's.
- No check-ins. A plan nobody reviews at day 30 is forgotten by day 45.

Frequently asked questions
What should be in a 30 60 90 day plan?

How do I write a 30 60 90 day plan for an interview?
Use what you know about the company and the role. Keep the first 30 days to learning and meeting people, the next 30 to plans and first fixes, and the last 30 to results with numbers. Fit it on one page and be ready to talk through it in two minutes.
Is a 30 60 90 day plan only for managers?
No. It works for any new role: a salesperson, an engineer, a nurse manager, a teacher. The phases stay the same; the goals change.
