The Road Not Taken
Robert Frost, 1916 · A poem analysis on one page
In one sentence
We tell our choices as if they decided everything, even when the two roads were nearly the same.
Most readers remember the last line. The middle of the poem quietly says the paths were equal.
Three Lines and What They Do
Two roads diverged in a yellow wood
Line 1 Sets the picture: an autumn choice
Had worn them really about the same
Line 10 The twist: neither road was less traveled
I took the one less traveled by, And that has made all the difference.
Lines 19-20 The story he will tell later

How It Made Me Feel
Relieved. I worry about picking the wrong path, and the poem says the choice matters less than the story I tell about it.
